USA Defeats Croatia Sims leads the USA past Croatia
Deshawn Sims scored 17 points, 11 rebounds in just 13 minutes of play, but it was enough to lead the USA to a 98 – 59 victory over Croatia. A total of six USA players scored in double figures and another USA player scored eight points.
The USA continued their pressure defense and transition game that helped them overcome a 10-point Turkey lead in 3 minutes, and brought the USA a 2-point buzzer beater win.
The USA made sure that this game would never come into question. It was a must-win game for Croatia who suffered a loss to Turkey in pool play, and a win for Croatia would force a three-way tie for first place.
However, the USA force 21 turnovers verse 13 turnovers, and controlled the boards with a 53 -27 margin, and that was all she wrote for Croatia.
The USA found a new gear and team chemistry. Kevin Durant and Tywon Lawson scored 13 points each. Spencer Hawes scored 12 points, and Rudy Gay and Malik Hairston scored 11 points apiece. Gary Johnson added eight points and six rebounds.
